TopoSat has been present right from the beginning Working with GPS since 1990, TopoSat was chosen to take part in one of the very first tests conducted by the European Commission on the use of GPS for surface checks (1993 - Etude sur le Casier Viticole Européen - Study on the European vineyard registry). The quality of our work prompted the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of Ispra to approach TopoSat several times since then to draft technical studies aimed at defining methods and tolerances for such measurements. Having attended some of the presentations at the JRC work shops, ONIGC and CNASEA naturally came to rely on these studies and recommendations for their own control work. TopoSat was also entrusted to train their staff in the art of measurement. ONIGC = Office national interprofessionnel des grandes cultures / National interprofessional agency for large area farms CNASEA = Centre national pour l'aménagement des structures des exploitations agricoles / National center for the structural development of farms Survey of agricultural lots Many companies now offer this type of work, but there are differences in quality: Surveys using GPS receivers designed for navigation (natural mode). They provide good results for large (more than 2 hectares) and normally compact lots. They have to be used with caution for smaller and/or long lots. The JRC in Ispra tested several GPS receivers and discovered that some of them can be particularly inaccurate. Surveys using differential GPS receivers, usually with code or carrier-smoothed code processing for providers predominantly active in agriculture, or carrier-phase processing (more accurate but more complex to use) for topographers or registered surveyors. TopoSat of course uses the latter technique. TopoSat services TopoSat carries out lot surveys and consultation services for administrations, cooperative societies, groups of farmers, farm produce companies or other groups.
