Faster with respect to conventional methods All surveyors know how to perform these kinds of surveys using conventional methods for classical applications (road alignments, pipelines, overhead line networks, etc.). There is a major advantage in using GPS here because it is possible to follow an alignment accurately without having to previously establish a traverse. It is sufficient to know the coordinates of the axis on both ends of the segment to be surveyed (provided by the client or determined in the field using GPS) and to follow the orientation indications given by the system. The height difference, the distance to the origin as well as the offset to the theoretical axis are obtained in real time for accurate alignment. Continuous surveys for multiple applications When surveying "on the fly" based on a time or distance interval between two consecutive positions, a series of three-dimensional data are captured which can be displayed on a situation (alignment) or a cutaway view (profile). This allows the survey of roads, footpaths, sea beds (in association with a depth sounder), etc. The GPS receiver is used by an operator moving on foot or it can be mounted on various kinds of vehicles as shown by the images below. Adapting the means of transportation to the encountered terrain can help save time.
